The Ying Zhan GOG Scholarship celebrates and empowers students who embody the transformative qualities of Grit, Optimism, and Gratitude (GOG). This scholarship recognizes not just academic excellence but also the strength of character, emotional resilience, and an unwavering commitment to personal growth and societal impact. It seeks to inspire young individuals to rise above challenges, lead with positivity, and foster a spirit of gratitude that uplifts others. Recipients of this scholarship are envisioned as future leaders and change-makers, equipped to drive progress and empower communities around the globe.
Each year, two merit-based scholarships of $3,000 each are awarded to deserving recipients. These funds are intended to support educational expenses, including tuition, books, lodging, and other academic-related costs, empowering students to focus on their personal and academic growth.
Eligibility Criteria
Target Applicants
The Ying Zhan GOG Scholarship is open to full-time high school and undergraduate students enrolled in accredited schools, colleges, or universities worldwide.
Key Qualities
Applicants must exemplify these three defining traits:
- Grit: A proven ability to persevere through challenges with resilience and determination.
- Optimism: A positive outlook and belief in the potential for success, even in the face of adversity.
- Gratitude: A consistent practice of recognizing and appreciating opportunities, support, and contributions from others.
Behavioral Evidence
Applicants should demonstrate these traits through real-life examples and achievements, showcasing their ability to:
- Turn obstacles into opportunities for growth.
- Maintain a hopeful and forward-thinking mindset during tough times.
- Actively acknowledge and give back to the individuals and communities that have supported them.

Academic Standing
Applicants must maintain a GPA equivalent to 3.0+ and the top 30% of their class.
Financial Records
Applicants have the option to voluntarily submit financial documents, such as income tax returns or financial aid award letters, if they feel their financial situation adds meaningful context to their application. However, it is important to note that financial need is not a factor in determining eligibility or selection for the Ying Zhan GOG Scholarship.
Selection Process
Selection Committee
The selection committee will include:
- Faculty members or advisors appointed by the CESASC Foundation and CESASC governing board.
- Industry and community leaders or mentors with a background in education or community development.
- Former Ying Zhan GOG scholarship recipients (if applicable).
Evaluation Criteria
- Demonstration of grit, optimism, and gratitude in both the personal statement and supporting documentation.
- Overall impact of the applicant’s activities on their community or personal growth.
- Evidence of commitment to becoming a leader and contributing to society.
